May holidays: where to go? 3 routes for two in Europe

The May holidays this year stood out long, and many have already planned full trips for this time. You have not decided yet? You can go just a few days where everything is blooming, already warm and not crowded.

Cyprus

It is said that on this island, the third largest in the Mediterranean, the sea goddess of love, Aphrodite, was born from foam. Perhaps that is why Cyprus in general and the place Paphos in particular, is so arranged for a romantic weekend together.

In April-May, Cyprus is as good as the bride before the wedding — refreshed, blooming, all covered in a white haze of orange blossom. Already warm enough to sunbathe, but the sun still does not turn any excursion into an act of self-immolation, the beaches and main sights are almost deserted - in short, the perfect moment to go around the island and finally see all its interesting features. Well, or not to go anywhere, but to be alone, enjoying the solitude.

For the latter, Paphos, the most romantic resort of Cyprus, is best suited. Many local hotels only accept couples. The bays are stony here, but lovers of barefoot walks along the surf line can take a car and drive half an hour to the Akamas reserve - there are many beautiful sandy bays so quiet that they are not afraid of laying eggs of sea turtles.

Paphos is entirely included in the UNESCO heritage list. Here you can see mosaics on the ruins of the villas, perfectly preserved for 16 centuries underground, mystical crypts and caves, gloomy but impressive Tombs of the Kings, the ancient Odeon Theater, where performances and concerts are still held, the catacombs of St. Solomon, the column of the Apostle Paul and many another.

In the evening, there is also something to do. The Ktima district around the medieval port, though small, is remote: there are more than 500 restaurants, taverns and nightclubs, where life is in full season. Be sure to go to the bouzouki taverns, where they dance, drink ouzo and throw flower petals at each other: consider this a rehearsal for the wedding.

Paphos has its own airport, which accepts regular Transaero flights, and in season also many charter flights from Moscow. Ticket price - from € 250, travel time - 3 hours.

Classes for two

Baths of Aphrodite. The same bay where Aphrodite was born, is very close to Paphos. If it is fair, then it is not at all the most beautiful on the island, but different wonderful things happen to those who swim in it. Women find beauty and youth, men - unprecedented courage, and lovers who swim together around the rock Peter-to-Romiou sticking out of the water, according to legend, will never be parted again. Who knows, maybe the legends and lie, but still worth a try.

Cruise on the yacht. There are many options for boat trips in Paphos. These are excursions to neighboring resorts, dive safaris, fishing (including octopus). And you can simply choose a romantic sunset cruise along the coast with champagne and dolphins frolicking overboard.

Horse ride. Troodos - the largest mountain range in Cyprus, topped with a peak called Olympus and overgrown with beautiful pine forest. You can come here by jeep, but it is much more interesting to choose a horse ride - so you can look into the most secluded corners of the reserve. Do not forget to stop at the restaurant at the main entrance and try fantastic mountain trout.

Shopping in Ktima. The colorful local market is good not only for colorful photographs: the local craft shops offer an excellent selection of leather goods, handmade dishes, as well as gold and silver jewelry - you can recruit souvenirs for friends and loved ones and beautiful gifts to commemorate a romantic vacation.

Maribor

The name of this Slovenian city sounds like a fabulous spell. And indeed, Maribor is able to bewitch, otherwise why in the heart of mountain Slovenia for centuries sought suffering rest from other countries?

It seems that over the past 800 years, the flow of time has stopped here, as if passing through the sieve of decades, passing only the best into the future. 400 years ago, the oldest vine was planted in Maribor, which still produces crops. The natural white wines of Maribor are related to the German Riesling. Here the Rhine vine got accustomed, in the century before last it gave such wines that the Austro-Hungarian imperial house was not ashamed to send Slovenian Riesling to the table of the reigning kin. As a souvenir, it is worth buying a Rhenish in the oldest cellar of Maribor Vinac (about € 8 per bottle).

200 years ago, the old city acquired the shape that has survived to this day. You can take a look at the Lent embankment near the Drava River, feed white swans and nimble ducks. You can climb to the market and buy from the farmer a liter bottle of dark thick pumpkin oil for € 12. You can pamper yourself with a sucker cake, the correct recipe of which was inherited from the Austrian domination, and warm yourself with a cup of hot chocolate or strong coffee (from € 1).

50 years ago ski resorts appeared in Pohorje: even the spoiled Austrians come here with their families. It is easiest to appreciate the charm of this place in the spring, when the slopes are already green in Maribor, and the crystal clear air rings from the chill and bird songs. Morning jogging, day swimming in thermal water, walks through the forest with a bag of delicacies for squirrels, excursions to Graz or Ljubljana are an excellent opportunity to find an opportunity for a long May weekend.

Fly to Ljubljana, Vienna or Venice. To Vienna - by Austrian Airlines, by Aeroflot, from 9,000 rubles, then by taxi (from € 200) for 2.5 hours to Maribor.

Classes for two

Thermal pool. Thermal Medical Center Fontana with a complex of outdoor and indoor pools with warm (from 33 to 37ºC) thermal water extracted from a depth of 1600 m is the best that Slovenia can offer to anyone who wants to break away from the hustle and bustle and regain a healthy body and emotional balance.

Power balance To restore the energy balance in the mountains, among the murmuring brooks and evergreen trees, a special “energy” path was laid not far from the ski lift to the resort of Bolkenk and to the Bellevue hotel. Stone blocks marked points of natural "recharging". It is said that a one-hour walk with stops at each energy point of the earth restores the balance of all vital systems of the body: the heart, gastrointestinal tract, respiratory organs and others.

Three fishermen. The restaurant on the street Ribniska, 9, is already 400 years old, it serves only traditional Slovenian dishes and grows greens right on the beds. In the cellar, take a glass of Borovicheskaya tincture for your appetite - black with whole blueberry berries. For lunch, take a thick goulash. Only one where there is the meat of wild animals - a bear or at least a deer - is hereby considered. Dessert - impossible tasty caramelized pear, and in the fall the local type of strudel - curl with blueberries.

Majorca

The northwest of Majorca is strikingly different from most of the island: here the centenary trams and trains ride through medieval streets, the rocky shores break into the azure sea, and the air is filled with aromas of pine needles and flowering orange trees. Here you need to go for the spring.

An ancient miniature electric locomotive barely pulls in wooden trailers filled with tourists. Puffing and puffing, he climbs through the mountains, dives into the tunnel and leaves it in a completely different country: the sun-scorched fields are replaced by orange and olive groves. It is hard to believe that Soller and Palma de Mallorca are 30 km apart, which a vintage train can travel in an hour.

The works of Juan Miro are preserved on the walls of the station in Soller, and a collection of Pablo Picasso ceramics is on display in one of the halls. Soller is a very artistic town. Despite its miniature size, it houses several museums, countless private galleries, jewelry shops and designer shops. It also makes sense to look at the market for the local olive oil, which are so proudly proud of and are considered the best in the world. Buy also delicious orange jam, which is easy to absorb banks.

And then - take the tram, recently celebrated its centenary. Previously, these cars were carrying passengers, oranges and fresh fish, but now mostly - idle travelers. The tram will bring you straight to Port de Soller - this secluded, perfectly protected bay was once chosen by fishermen a long time ago, then by creative beau monde, and now tourists, sunbathing on the beach, sauntering along the embankment or slowly dining at numerous restaurants, are hosted here.

Soller has a lot in common with France. The reason for this is the French Revolution and the very Tramuntana, or rather its part - the Alfabia mountain chain, which reliably separated the valley of Soller and the bay from the rest of the island. Entrepreneurial Frenchmen established trade in citrus and olives with their former homeland, thanks to which the city flourished. The descendants of the French, who had taken refuge here from the horrors of the revolution, still constitute a considerable part of the population, thanks to which the city can be easily explained in Spanish and French.

Port de Soller is an ideal starting point for hiking and cycling along the Sierra de Tramuntana. Especially here it is good in spring, when the head is spinning from the riot of colors and fragrances.

Only S7 Airlines has direct flights from Moscow to Mallorca: up to six flights a week on a season on Airbus A320 liners. Travel time - 3.5 hours, cost - from € 366. In low season, S7 Airlines offers flights through Madrid or Munich.

Classes for two

Admire the sunset. In Port de Soller there are two beautiful places on the rocks framing the entrance to the bay, the Es Faro restaurant ("Lighthouse") at the Cap Gros lighthouse (seafood is served here), and on the opposite side is the Sunset Lounge Bar at the Jumeirah Port Hotel Soller (here are the best cocktails on the island).

Fight the Moors. "Moors and Christians" (Moros y Cristianos) - the annual costume festival. On the second weekend of May, the townspeople take armor and vacuos from the closets to celebrate the victory, which the residents of Soller won over the Arab pirates on May 11, 1561, in a cheerful carnival battle.

Take a walk through the mountains. Trekking and cycling are not very popular among Russians, so during such active activities you will find yourself in the company of Europeans. Excursions can be booked in the city or directly at the hotel. In the latter case, they will give you a guide, provide you with tapas drinks and snacks, and provide you with a discount at the spa.

Listen to live music. The restaurant Ran de Mar, located on the seafront of Port de Soller, in the evenings not only elegantly fed and mixed excellent cocktails, but also plays great live music. Tables on the veranda are good, but be sure to look inside: the interiors of the restaurant will please fans of modern decor.
