We travel all year round. What about a school for a child?
In recent years, many parents change their place of residence in Russia to another, warmer country by the sea - for the winter season or even for several years they are going to live in Bali (Indonesia), in Thailand, Vietnam. Attracts climate, visa regime, relatively inexpensive life. While children are small, it is convenient, but what about when it comes to school? Abandoning long journeys and returning home so that the child learns? There are other options. Olga Budaeva, a young mother and traveler who has been living in the countries of Southeast Asia for three and a half years, shares her experience.
On the Internet, we are increasingly meeting people who travel with their children and share their experiences through social networks, YouTube or blogs. Many follow their movements around the world and dream of someday doing something similar. In my head more and more thoughts: "I wish I was!". But in most cases we stop ourselves: “I can't! I have a child! But what about education? ”
Yes, most contrived fears and excuses are associated with the education and upbringing of children. As a mom-traveler, I will try to dispel your fears and answer most questions about the development and education of children traveling.
Together with my baby I have been traveling for more than 3 years. When we started, she was 4.5 years old. Acquaintances and friends twisted their fingers at their heads and asked questions: “Tell me, Olya, what about the kindergarten? Communication with peers? Circles? Now I can easily answer that, when traveling, it is absolutely easy to engage in the full development of children.
But what about kindergarten?
The first 4 months we lived in Bali, and later we spent 2 years in Thailand. Of course, the question of communicating with peers and visiting kindergarten was one of the most important.
In Bali, my daughter attended drawing circles, modeling clay, yoga for children. We thought about the gardens when we moved to the Kingdom of Thailand. It turned out that there are many of them and for every taste.
On Samui, where we lived long enough, we found a Russian kindergarten and a home garden. Classes, educational games, proper care, meals 4 times a day - everything is as it should be. This is more likely for those who are worried about communication for their children in Russian.
If you want to put the child in an English-speaking environment, you could find a Canadian kindergarten.
And who wanted simpler, he chose a Thai kindergarten. It is a little different from those taken from us, but still many of our compatriots took children there, because it was cheap enough for money.
Later, having moved to Vietnam, we met a kindergarten for Russian children, which our compatriots opened. All the same classes, educational games, pleasant nannies, 3-4 meals a day ... Vietnamese kindergartens are simpler for people with demands.
In general, there are no problems for the education of preschool children in traveling. But there is also the opportunity to bring a grandmother with him to raise grandchildren. I have met many such families here. Everyone is happy. Parents at work, children under supervision, grandmothers in comfortable conditions and with their children and grandchildren.
School: how without a Russian education?
When the daughter was 6 years old, all and sundry began to ask questions about the school. “Well, it's clear kindergarten! The child is small, and he can be at home. But school is different! What about education? Russian education! ”
In fact, this issue is easily solved. There are schools in every country. As we travel in Asia, I will talk about the local schooling practice. And I will share the experience of the parents I met.
For example, in Bali there is the famous Green School known to the whole world. The lines in it are occupied even before the child is born - many parents want to see their children right here and bring them up with introduction into the English-speaking environment.
Of course, the question is money. Not everyone can afford this school, but if they want, this will be achievable.
Let's consider now Thailand. At 6 years old, the daughter began to go to a Russian-language school at home. From Monday to Thursday she had lessons in 4 main subjects - mathematics, reading, Russian and English. Just like in a regular school - a teacher, lessons, changes, homework, classmates. I think this is a great way out for those who want to travel with children and at the same time not to separate a child from school.
And the teachers of the Russian community of Koh Samui created classes at the language school for children from the first to the fourth grade.
I believe that older children can already go to international schools. And there are a lot of them on Samui.
As for Vietnam, here we found schools at home: international and Vietnamese.
But that's not all! For those who want to give the child Russian education without fail, there are Internet schools.
Internet schools, home schooling
We are not sitting still - I would not like to be tied to one country - and found a solution: distance learning via the Internet. Today it is becoming very popular and gives the opportunity to continue their travel lovers travel.
Here are some of the resources that offer distance education for children.
www.school-inter.net - Remote elementary school (grades 1-5), classes are held in mini-groups via Skype (2-3 lessons 2-3 times a week). Many creative tasks and independent work, in which parents are actively involved. In addition to lessons on the school curriculum and learning languages, you can enroll in courses on interests from talented teachers - for example, make cartoons with Yevgeny Kabakov and study Russian language and journalism with Tatiana Rick. Conveniently, you can pay for classes directly online.
www.shod.ru - International School “Learning in Dialogue”, located in St. Petersburg. There is full-time, part-time, part-time and distance learning. In the latter case, students of the 1st to 11th grade will be sent work during the year, checked by teachers, given intermediate grades. For the annual certification and for the delivery of the state examination and the unified state examination, you must come in person. Submission of documents and the conclusion of the contract occur directly at the school
www.schooloftomorrow.ru - International School of Tomorrow, you can learn both in Russian and in English, internally and in absentia. The school accepts documents, conducts personal affairs of students and conducts certification.
www.school4you.ru - The home school center has been working for more than 20 years, ready to advise on family education or to represent the interests of its students in their chosen schools. Offers online classes (individually or in groups), teacher consultations, as well as e-learning materials and tests.
www.extern-mos.ru - Intensive training center, training takes place using the site, but twice a year you have to pass full-time certification at school. There are separate programs for high school students.
www.interneturok.ru/ is a project of the well-known site “Internet Lesson”, where many watch videos of lessons on the school curriculum, consolidate knowledge with the help of the attached notes and perform homework and tests that exist after each lesson. In the “Home School” there will be added the schedule made specifically for the student, as well as the control of his work by real teachers, they can also get advice. Now you can test this mode of operation for free during the week.
www.extern-office.net - Extern office, also known as the Bitner School. Alexey Bitner lives and works in Novosibirsk; he distributes his distance students to schools in Moscow, St. Petersburg and Novosibirsk (or you can attach yourself). Students master the material on the program independently, check themselves with the help of training tasks on the site. For each studied subject there is a list of questions in the development of which, in fact, consists of the study of the subject, and of which the examination will consist. Attestation (except for the state exam and unified state examination) is online: the student writes the work, the process is recorded by a video camera, the work in electronic form is sent and verified. On the site, you can get temporary access to all materials to assess whether you need it or not.
Personally, I tend to the last option, as many familiar travelers advised him - their children study there. Also, the moment of certification was important for us - all exams here can be passed through the Internet.
Circles, sections, workshops
My friends in Russia say: “Here we are senior after school, we carry on karate, chess, a circle of a young researcher. Child development must be diversified. ”
I, of course, agree that development must be versatile. And in our “baggage” with my daughter there are a lot of circles, developing classes, master classes. At various times she attended drawing classes, clay modeling, taekwando, drama, gymnastics, and learned to play musical instruments. At the master classes she cooked pizza, baked home-made bread, made soap.
I can safely say that travel and children's education are two very compatible things. Do not be afraid to discover this world for you and your children.
