Eclecticism of Christmas: history, modernity, cooking
We live in the XXI century, today the celebration of Christmas is different from how it was celebrated in the past or the nineteenth century, not to mention the earlier time. "Culinary Eden" decided to find out what modern Christmas is and including what it is eaten with. In the sense - what can be cooked for Christmas.
Modern Christmas is a family holiday. We can celebrate the New Year with friends and colleagues; we often find ourselves at all among strangers — where the holiday whirl does not go. But Christmas is better to meet with the family.
At the same time, if you are not a particularly religious person, Christmas can still be a wonderful, fun and memorable holiday for you. In the end, meeting with close people is always a holiday. At the same time, Christmas is not only a meal in a narrow family circle.
In the modern world, especially in Western Europe, in the USA, Christmas is a highly commercialized holiday (in Russia, rather New Year is commercialized). But not only sales and unprecedented revenues of merchants famous modern Christmas.
Again, using the example of Europe, we can state that Christmas is a time of charity. It is during Christmas that special dining rooms are opened, free examinations of the poor are conducted in hospitals and medical cabinets (by doctors with private medical practice), and charity sales are arranged. In addition, in many countries, members of various volunteer organizations (volunteers) organize holidays for lonely old people, give them gifts. The so-called "Christmas donations" to the funds of various charitable organizations are also common.
Undoubtedly, "Christmas good" is going on in Russia, but on the scale of our country, perhaps, it is still somewhat insufficient (if it can be enough at all). After all, each person can do something quite small to please another person or to ease and decorate his life a little. And this does not take much time or money. For example, you can hand over unnecessary things or gifts to a charity organization. Glance to a lonely neighbor for a cup of tea, congratulate her on holidays and ask about her life. Invite a friend or colleague who stayed alone for the holidays. All this is also Christmas.
Do not forget about Christmas and the children. After all, New Year's and Christmas festivities with a decorated Christmas tree, with Santa Claus, gifts are perceived by children as something magical. These days, perhaps, it is necessary to pay special attention to children. What exactly to do? Actually, it all depends on your imagination. Undoubtedly, it is worthwhile to attract a child to decorate a Christmas tree - most children love this activity.
In Russia, the tradition of giving presents for Christmas, alas, is somewhat forgotten, the emphasis in this sense is on the New Year, however, if you are going to give something to your child and for Christmas - be sure to discuss with him that he would like to "ask Grandfather Frost ": the child will be pleased that you are interested in his opinion, desires. Another Christmas activity is the joint preparation of Christmas treats. Most likely, the child will be interested in cooking sweets: you can bake Christmas cookies with him. Here is a recipe for baking Christmas cookies in Belgium.

In addition to the "children's" Christmas treats, which, of course, are not limited to cookies, there are also "adults". However, children can also be treated to them - a Christmas meal for everyone.
